Character Word and Activities for the Month of November
Our character word for this month is Courage. Courage means being brave in the face of danger. Our students this month will learn about different characters who have shown courage. We will also be talking about fears and the things that we can be afraid of or things that scare us. Our K-2 students will read "Howard B. Wigglebottom Faces His Fears" from wedolisten.org. I love using this website because they animate the stories and they have wonderful activities that support the stories. The will also be reading "Horton Hears a Who" and we will be discussing the ways that Horton was courageous and how he stood up for something he knew was right. Our fourth graders will be participating in the College Counts Art Contest this month. One winner will be selected from our school and will go on to compete against other entries from Huntsville City Schools. That winner will receive a $100 scholarship and will compete against other students from the state of Alabama. The grand winner will receive a $529 scholarship. Stay tuned for more information. Our third and fifth grade students will be participating in bullying activities that focus on the bystander effect and what they can do to have courage and let adults know when bullying happens.
