Character Word of the Month: Fairness
Welcome back to 2017! We have some very exciting things planned for this semester. It was so great to see all of the students back from the break and hear about all of the great things they did. As always, we start this month out with a new character word. The word for this month is fairness. Fairness means to be free from favoritism or bias. We will be discussing fairness is different aspects, including sportmanship and diversity. Stay tuned to the blog for more information about the different ways our students will be learning about favoritism.

On Monday students will participate in a school-wide writing activity to come up with their own "I Have a Dream" speech. We will also be having trivia all throughout the week.
On Tuesday, students are encouraged to wear RED. Red is the color of love. Students will be participating in "The Dream Quilt" where they will draw a detailed picture of their dream. Each picture will be pieced into the MLK Dream Quilt which will be on display.
On Wednesday, students are encouraged to wear GREEN. Green symbolizes harmony. Students will be participating in an egg activity to discuss diversity.
On Thursday, students are encouraged to wear PURPLE. Purple represents royalty, wealth, and peace. Students in grades K-2 will be given a handprint to be decorated to be put into a peace wreath. Students in grades 3-5 will discuss what words represent MLK as a class. These lists of words will be glued to a silhouette of MLK and displayed in the hallways.
On Friday, students are encourageed to wear BLACK. Black is the color of unity, strength, and power. Students will watch an MLK video that will be broadcast schoolwide. We will also have our MLK assembly and celebration that afternoon.
